Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 18, 2026
The short version:
- We don't collect anything from children. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking.
- Reading progress, and any names typed into a book, stay in the browser on your own device.
- If you buy books, our payment provider handles your payment. We see the details of your order so we can help you.
- We never sell or share personal information.
The Puzzle Story Library (“the library”, “we”, “us”) is based in New Jersey, USA. This policy covers the website at puzzlestorylibrary.com and any other address we use for it.
Children's privacy
The books are made for children aged about 8 to 12 to read and play, ideally with a grown-up nearby. We built the library so that children never have to give us anything:
- There are no sign-ups, no chat, no sharing features and no place to upload anything.
- When a book asks for a name (for example on a certificate), the name stays in that browser. It is never sent to us.
- Buying books and entering license keys is for parents, guardians and teachers, not children.
We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, as defined by the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you think a child has sent us personal information, for example in an email, contact us and we will delete it.
Information that stays on your device
- Reading progress (which puzzles are solved, and where you stopped) and names typed into a book are saved in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device. Clearing your browser's site data, or using a book's reset button in the grown-ups panel, deletes them.
Information we handle
- License keys. When you unlock books, the key you type is sent to our server and checked with our payment provider. The type of device (for example “iPad” or “Windows PC”) is sent along with it, so you can see your devices in your purchase. Your device then keeps a small cookie called
psl_access. It holds your key and a list of the books it unlocks, and it is signed so it can't be changed. About once a week, your device checks the key again, so a refunded key stops working. The cookie is needed for the library to work. It isn't used for tracking or advertising, and it lasts up to one year. “Remove this device” on the unlock page deletes it. - Purchases. Payments are handled by our payment provider, which is named on your receipt and acts as the seller of record. It collects your name, email address, billing country and payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see your full card details. We receive your name, email address, what you bought and your license key, and we use them only to provide your books, answer your questions and handle refunds.
- Emails you send us. If you write to us, we use your message and email address only to reply. We delete them when they are no longer needed.
- Hosting. The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. We don't use this information to identify anyone. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Our fonts are stored on our own site, so loading a page doesn't contact Google or any other font service.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share personal information, as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act and similar US state laws.
- We don't use advertising, analytics, social media widgets or tracking pixels.
- We don't build profiles of anyone.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing [email protected]. We may keep order records when the law requires it, for example for taxes. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law, and we will honor them.
Security
The site uses HTTPS everywhere. Access cookies are signed and can't be read by scripts on the page. Paid books are only sent to devices that have unlocked them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we handle information we already hold, we will tell buyers by email first.
